20 kilometres of multi-storey conveyor technology installed

SAMONt has successfully completed one of the most challenging projects in its history: over a period of three and a half years, a team of around 90 employees installed approximately 20 kilometres of conveyor technology in the distribution centre of a global parcel service provider.

Project profile:

  • Task: Expansion and modernisation of complex sorting and distribution systems in the central European air freight hub of a global parcel service provider.
  • Scope: Mechanical and electrical installation and commissioning of approx. 20 km of conveyor technology in several halls.
  • Special features: Work carried out mainly during ongoing operations. Multi-storey installations at heights of up to 14 metres.
  • Location: Air HUB at Cologne-Bonn Airport.
  • Time frame: Three and a half years.
  • Client: Leading provider of supply chain technology.

At Cologne-Bonn Airport, a new phase in the long history of this important European location has begun in the Air HUB of a global parcel service provider. Following the expansion of around 20 kilometres of sorting and distribution technology, the capacity has increased to up to 230,000 parcels per hour, which are sorted, transported and distributed using highly automated technology.

A SAMONT team of around 90 employees worked on site for around three and a half years. Particular challenges included the installation of multi-storey conveyor technology at heights of up to 14 metres, which required special safety precautions, and the fact that most of the installation work had to be carried out while operations were ongoing.

‘We completed a demanding project on schedule with a high level of technical expertise, flexibility and reliability.’
